Our monthly Open Days are great family days out and visitors can look round The Ark, meet some of our cats and dogs, enjoy a delicious homemade lunch or tea and bag themselves a bargain from one of our many stalls selling gifts, books, bric a brac, jewellery and toys. The Ark is open on these days from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. and admission is free.
The Allsorts Dog Show starts at 12.30 and as you would guess has classes for all sorts of dogs inc. The Annual General Meeting of Ashbourne & District Animal Welfare Society will be held at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday 16th May 2019 at The Ark, Wyaston Road, Ashbourne, DE6 1NB. Any paid-up member who is nominated and seconded by other paid-up members is eligible to stand for election and all nominations should be made in writing to the Chairman at The Ark by 26th April. Members who cannot attend but who would like to vote by proxy can obtain forms from our website or The Ark from April 29th onwards. We hope that you will attend the meeting to find out how we are doing and to exercise your vote, so please try to come if you can. The Dogs Unleashed event at Bakewell Showground really is a great day out for dog lovers. We run the fun dog show and all proceeds from this go to us. Classes include Most Handsome Dog, Prettiest Bitch, Waggiest Tail, Best Puppy, Top Dog, Best Biscuit Catcher etc. We also have a stand at the show selling our goods. Do please come along and support us. There are lots of doggy attractions including agility, terrier racing, flyball, heelwork to music etc.
Fun Dog Show entries are from 11 a.m. and, as you would guess, there are classes for all sorts of dogs. There is a class for Jolly Good Looking Chap (Most Handsome Dog), Jolly Good Looking Gal (Prettiest Bitch), Jolliest Dog (Waggiest Tail), Jolly Junior (Best Puppy), Best Expression, Jolly Good Condition and Judge's Favourite. Visit the kennels and cattery and meet some of our cats and dogs looking for new homes. There are Dancing Dogs displays and a small animals corner with tortoises, hedgehogs, rabbits and hens. Homemade lunches and teas are available and the shop is open for gifts as well as our outside sales areas selling books, bric a brac, toys etc. Entry to the event is free but the dog show costs £1 per dog per class.
