TANGO
“Hi all at Ashbourne
Thought you would like an update on Tango. He has settled in beautifully, it seems like he has always been here. He is part of the pack, has been to lots of exciting places and his confidence is growing daily. My husband thinks he’s wonderful and I often catch them having a cuddle.
He’s met lots of doggy folks and had loads of fuss and treats. He wheedles his way onto my lap and there we stay for an hour. The other dogs don’t seem to mind although he has been put in his place by Robbie, my Lurcher. We’ve started clicker training and he’s very quick to catch on. We are off to flyball tonight, which he loves as he is really into his ball now. We went to a show recently and Tang had his photo taken going over a baby jump - his first action shot!

Thank you so much for letting me adopt him. He’s just the boy I wanted, and such fun.

ELLIE ( was KELLY)
“To my kind Ark friends
When my new Mum and Dad brought me home I could hear them wondering if I would ever trust them enough to roll over on my back to have my tummy tickled, as I used to do for Katy at the Ark. Little did they realise that I spend most of my time on my back for tummy tickles, even from the postman. I didn’t know that I wasn’t supposed to like him!
My Mum and Dad love me to bits and I kiss them whenever and wherever I can...’Aaargh!’ I also try to get on their knees when they sit on the settee. They don’t encourage this, though I can’t think why not; don’t most GSD’s sit on knees to be cuddled?
The car is my second home and so far I’ve been on holiday to Devon, Scotland and North Wales, sometimes staying in hotels, (once the waitress gave me a sausage for breakfast). I’ve discovered that I really am a mountain, lake and beach dog and that all day climbs and walks including swims suit me the most.

I can’t understand why I can’t do these things when arriving back in the Midlands and have to put up with Cannock Chase and the canal. It’s really disgraceful.
I’ve been with my Mum and Dad for 8 months and now go to school. I’m pretty good at obedience and agility and just love the tunnels and jumps.... I just want to please.
I discovered that before getting me, my Mum and Dad had just lost their last GSD and had no intention whatever of getting another dog. I was a big accident; but my beautiful, loving, kind eyes, wagging tail, happy, lovely, easy going nature all wormed their way into their hearts and has brought them a lot of happiness again.
Thank you ‘Ark’ friends. I don’t know what would have happened to me without you.
Lots of kisses, Ellie xxx”

BENJAMIN and DENNIS
“Benjamin has turned into a delightful little cat (not that Dennis necessarily thinks so!). It took a while to winkle him out from under his blanket but his confidence continues to grow. He is now pretty relaxed whilst around us. He is very chatty and loves to slide around the kitchen floor chasing one of his many wine bottle corks - now his favourite toy since it resembles a vole (the real ones he has decimated).
(Webmaster note: sounds like my sort of cat. Drinks wine by the bottle and terrorises the neighbourhood!)
He is now affectionately referred to as ‘Corky’. From day one he has tried so hard to be friends with Dennis and has made all the running. It started with Benjamin shadowing Dennis, who would lead him off up into the fields, while possibly trying to lose him. But it is quite interestin to note that it is Dennis who is now beginning to look to benjamin for a game and copying some of Benjamin’s tricks - a true copycat.
Dennis has been, and continues to be, a very independent cat and is very popular with everyone. But it has been interesting to see that he does not appreciate help - probably because of his disability. He likes to be the tough guy and tends to be a bit too boisterous for benjamin when he tries to play.
Best wishes to everyone at The Ark.
David”
Editor’s note: When at The Ark, Dennis was Sebastian the three legged cat.
