SALLY AND FRIENDS
When one of the charity’s long time supporters sadly died there was nobody to carry on looking after her seven cats and two dogs. So , two by two (well almost!), they all came in to The Ark. Sally, the Border Collie cross, and Fred, the Dachshund cross, arrived with their family of cats – Rascal at 20 years and Roger at 18 being the eldest. Then there were the two white girls, Emma with no tail, who we nicknamed ‘The Little Polar Bear’, and Hannah, who was deaf. The group was completed with Lucy, Bridie and Lucky the tabby/tortie girls.
All the family used to sleep together on their owner’s bed and were understandably very distressed when they came into our care. When Fred was re-homed very quickly, Sally was very lonely and so was taken into our cattery to see her furry friends. It was touching to see them greet one another, with Sally anxiously rushing over to lick any cat that meowed. We couldn’t bear to part them, so Sally the dog moved into the cattery to live with her family of cats.
Amazingly, Rascal and Roger the two oldest cats were soon re-homed. They were quickly followed by Sally and then Hannah. Lucy was diagnosed as diabetic and needed to be on insulin injections twice daily, but nevertheless found a new home, with Bridie, Emma and Lucky following shortly after.
