ROGER – A VERY SPECIAL CAT

Roger was a stray ginger cat who came into The Ark in very poor condition.  He was severely undernourished and had a bad abscess under his chin. Despite all this he was a most cheerful, friendly cat, loved everyone and purred continuously!  It soon became clear that he was a very poorly boy and the decision was made to keep him at The Ark as long as he was comfortable and happy.

He was given his own room with a door opening on to a small garden.  He was very contented there, usually tucked up in his basket chair, graciously receiving his many visitors.  He became an honorary committee member, attending all meetings and purring loudly if he agreed with decisions made. Treats of chicken (and sometimes trifle!) were politely accepted although, despite a good appetite, he remained very thin.

We had expected Roger’s time with us to be brief, but we had the pleasure of his company for five months before he passed away peacefully, whilst asleep in his favourite chair.  We will always remember him for his gentle dignity and his thunderous purr.  The new cattery unit has been named ‘Roger’s Room’, in his memory.
